Welcome to Cape Town & the Western Cape, proud host city of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the largest and most thrilling event to grace the African continent!
Here in Cape Town & the Western Cape, South Africa’s mother city and home of eight world cup matches, we are literally counting down the minutes to kickoff and are delighted to host, celebrate and share the most beautiful game on earth, in one of the most beautiful destinations on earth, with you.
Our excitement knows no end as we prepare for the first of the major events leading up to the world cup – the Festival of the Final Draw on Friday, 4 December 2009. The Final Draw will determine the groups for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and like you, we’re dying to see where we’re placed and who we’re up against! Join us for the revelry and merriment of the Final Draw Festival in the streets of Cape Town and be part of the celebrations in the hours leading up to and beyond the all important FIFA announcement. If you can’t be here to party with us, then catch the Final Draw and festival as we broadcast it live to the world at 7pm South African time.
Your enjoyment is all we’re thinking of and we’re working hard to make sure that your world cup experience in our wonderful destination exceeds your wildest expectations, and rivals any held before. To this end we have undertaken massive upgrades and developments across the tourism and hospitality industry as well as services, facilities and infrastructure, and have put together the most incredible campaign called “Beyond the 90 Minutes”, especially for you.
“Beyond the 90 minutes” literally takes you beyond the 90 minutes of the football match and lets you explore Cape Town and the Western Cape’s six tourism regions and discover its captivating attractions, fascinating cultures and exhilarating experiences, before, between and after matches.
To guide you, we’ve put together six fun soccer-themed travel itineraries, perfect for football tourists as well as those who just love to travel.
