Unique wooden furniture, individually crafted in beautiful
surroundings, Corrie Lynn & Co is the epitome of a small
business which has shown remarkable growth during the 7
years of its existence.
Started by Robin Fowler whilst he was still farming full
time, Corrie Lynn & Co was initially situated in a garage
on Corrie Lynn farm. Robin & his wife, Tinks, trained one
worker to assist them and he is now one of the senior
staff members. As orders started coming in, the garage
grew too small and Robin moved the workshop into part of
the red shed which is now the show room.
Initially Robin and Tinks relied on word of mouth as their
sole means of advertising. After a couple of years they
became members of the Midlands Meander Association and
started attending various shows where their furniture
could be viewed. As a result of exhibiting at the Royal
Agricultural Show in Pietermaritzburg, they picked up
their first major contract to supply furniture to some of
the KZN Wildlife (formerly Natal Parks Board) resorts.
The factory had to be moved once more as they had run out
of space. Corrie Lynn & Co now has 6 full time and 4 part-
time employees.
Robin designs all the furniture himself and says that he
has drawn inspiration from the Shaker-style furniture
which is simple, has clean lines and allows the wood to
show off its natural beauty. I enjoy working with
unusual types of wood as I can then design pieces of
furniture which are slightly different to the norm, says
Robin.
Custom-made furniture is the speciality of Corrie Lynn &
Co and many customers rely on Robin to interpret an idea
or style for them. The furniture he makes ranges from
beds and bedroom furniture to living room, dining and
kitchen and bathroom furniture. Corrie Lynn & Co also
offers a range of outdoor and patio furniture, including
the hugely popular Canadian-style Adirondack chairs and
benches.
Corrie Lynn & Co is a good place to visit if you are
looking for smaller wooden items which are suitable for
gifts. You will find a variety of bread and cheese
boards, cutlery holders, trays, bird feeders, bird houses,
lamps and hinged boxes.
The Corrie Lynn & Co showroom has become a popular
shopping venue for tourists on the Midlands Meander. They
love the unique woods and the designs which Robin has
created. Most of the work he does is commissioned by
visitors from other parts of South Africa, as well as
Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States. He has
completed export orders which were sent to Spain, the UK
and Austria and is presently working on his first export
order to the United States.
Our furniture is really good value for money, says Robin
who is a stickler for quality and personally checks each
item before it is put in the showroom or shipped to the
customer. Visitors are welcome to watch the furniture
being made in the workshop after viewing the large
selection of items in the showroom which commands a
spectacular view of the Dargle Valley.
